Get filing assistanceA Florida filing requirement for business property
Florida law requires tangible personal property returns for covered property. The return is filed with the Property Appraiser in the county where the property is located. It is separate from your business registration and income tax filings. See section 193.052, Florida Statutes.
What is reported on Form DR-405?
Business furniture, computers, tools, machinery, supplies, and certain improvements may belong on the return. Include fully depreciated equipment still in use. Identify leased or borrowed equipment separately, and document items sold or removed.
Prepare item descriptions, acquisition dates, original installed costs, and available supporting records. Inventory held for sale and ordinary household goods used personally are generally excluded. Review the official DR-405 instructions for the applicable categories.
When is the Florida tangible personal property tax return due?
The standard filing deadline is April 1, reporting property located in the county on January 1. Confirm submission instructions and any approved extension with your county office. Florida Department of Revenue filing guidance.
The $25,000 exemption and annual filing waiver
An eligible return can receive an exemption of up to $25,000 of assessed value. Generally, an initial return is needed to establish eligibility. Qualifying taxpayers may then receive an annual filing waiver while their property value remains within the exemption. A business exceeding that threshold must resume filing. Confirm your account’s waiver status rather than assuming no return is needed. Read section 196.183.

- Locate your prior return, account number, and Property Appraiser correspondence.
